With aspirations of my own to establish a social network, I have kept a keen eye on various startups based on the same concept. One particular startup, VGviews.com, has been a site I check regularly for my daily dose of video game information. VGviews.com is a startup company focusing on video games reviews for the people by the people. Recently launched in the beginning of this year, the website has created an environment for intelligent and lengthy reviews. The site seems to be attracting some attention within the video game market, with a new review being posted everyday. Correspondingly, VGviews has attempted to further create a social environment by implementing features such as blogging, selling/trading games, forums and a review system.
Although VGviews has been implementing new features to the site, some of the features seem to be distracting to the site. The site seems to be going away from the review aspect and trying to unearth another group to target. For instance, the idea of selling and trading games is nothing new. To just add that to the site, supposedly, focused on video game reviews is a distraction. VGviews should be focused, mainly, on video review features not adding features that are too broad for the site. The site needs to focus on one aspect of video games, just adding features that are revolved around video games is not going to bring consistent traffic to the site. I could continue this rant for ever but the point I am trying to make is that, too often, do startups with a niche idea end up going away from their objective and lose focus on the reason the site attracted people in the first place.
